APOCALYPTO
SEA SALT • GHOST • SCORPION • REAPER • COCOA • TEQUILA
This potent recipe and design began with a buddy batch our friend Eddie Gallagher. Made to honor the ferocious spirit and heart of a warrior, we’ve created something powerful yet kind by choice. This exotic blend is made with coarse Pacific sea salt infused with an ultra-hot extraction of Ghost, Scorpion and Carolina Reaper peppers, cocoa and oak aged tequila. Gritty, smooth, robust, intoxicating heat.
Includes: 25g Pouch of Coarse grind Apocalypto Hot Salt and ID card.
The APOCALYPTO design was inspired by The Disk of Death, also known as The Disk of Mictlantecuhtli, a menacing stone carving of a skull surrounded by sun rays that was discovered at the foot of the Pyramid of the Sun. Maya and Aztec were the first to combine hot pepper and cocoa in a health-promoting elixir called Xocolatl.

Flavor notes: Smokey oak and tequila meet cocoa, with savory dense heat that builds as each of the Three Kings (Ghost, Reaper, and Scorpion) peppers traverse the palette.
The coarse sea salts we use are natural unprocessed North Pacific sea-salts made by solar evaporation of brine and are not iodized. They are refined by washing with clean saturated salt brine to remove surface impurities, drained of excess moisture, dried, and screened to size.
*More about The Disk of Mictlantecuhtli
The Disk of Mictlantecuhtli is a Teotihuacan stone sculpture created between 1CE and 600CE. It is on display at the National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City in Mexico.
According to myth, Mictlāntēcutli ruled over Mictlān, the afterlife that awaited all mortals who didn't die in battle or childbirth. Mictlān was a four-year trial, where human souls descended through nine levels featuring rivers of blood, winds that cut like knives, and mountains that crash together on souls that pass between them. Souls that found their way to the last level were greeted by Mictlāntēcutli, who is depicted in sculptures as a skeleton splashed with blood, arms raised in gleeful aggression, with a necklace of human eyeballs and a mouth agape to swallow the stars as they fall from the sky.
If all this sounds like a bit much, remember that a skeletal face had a softer connotation for the Aztec, for whom death was so intimately connected with life that skulls were a symbol of regeneration, like the first flowers of spring. "
